What is Transmission mode ?

Transmission mode means transferring of data between two devices connect over a network

There are three type of transmission mode :-

  • Simplex Mode.
  • Half duplex Mode.
  • Full duplex Mode.
Different Simplex Mode or Half duplex and full duplex
Different Simplex Mode or Half duplex and full duplex

Simplex Mode

  • In this mode of communication data Can be sent only one direction. (Uni-directional)
  • Such as Keyboard, Monitor, Loudspeaker etc

Half duplex Mode

  • Each station can both transmit and receive. but not at the time is knows as Half duplex mode.
  • When one device is sending , the other can only receive and vice versa.
  • In a half duplex transmission, the entire capacity of a channel is taken over by whichever of the two devices is transmitting at the time.
  • walkie talkies are both half duplex system.
  • The Half-Duplex Mode supports a Bi-Directional flow of data but in one direction at a time.
  • such as walkie talkies , one lane road etc.

Full duplex Mode

  • Both stations can transmit and receive at the same time. Actually, it is two half duplex connections.
  • Telephone network is an example of full duplex mode, when two people are communicating by a telephone line, both can talk and listen at the same time.
  • The capacity of the channel, must be divides between the two directions.
  • The Full-Duplex Mode supports a Bi-Directional flow of data in both directions at the same time.
  • Such as telephone line, Mobile phones etc.
